This is the new, ongoing game of OSF. It is called Would It Make You Smile If I...? If you've been reading this blog for a while or if you've just found us and have had a chance to look around a bit, it is (hopefully) obviousy that our sole purpose here is to make others smile! Well, I want to expand our mission to include our readers more and get you all involved in helping us make people smile. So, while stitching the Smileys, which is like a meditative practice for me, I got the idea for this game. It's really simple and just about anybody can do it, just about anywhere. All you really need is your imagination and preferably a CAMERA (camera phones are acceptable as long as pics are clear) to record and share your experience.
So here's how it works. I am going to use an example for something that I am planning to do myself with this game. Let's say you are at Starbucks and you decide to play the game. You pick a person that you want to engage in the game. You decide (before asking them-this is VERY IMPORTANT) what it is that you're offering, then you proceed to approach the potential recipient and say something like this: (this is going with the idea that you're offering is to pay for the person's coffee/drink) Hi there! I would like to ask you a question: would it make you smile if I paid for your coffee? (You might get a weird look here, but stand your ground and be firm. Repeat the question if necessary.) Hopefully the person will accept and if/when they do you ask if it's ok to get a photo of their smiling response to receiving the item offered. You then follow through, in this case by purchasing their drink. Take their SMILING photo, then come here and share story/pics with the rest of us. Let's see how many people we can get to play as giver and receiver, and keep it going and going and going. Simple enough right?
The beauty of this game is that every body is a winner, except of course if you turn down what's being offered, then I guess you'll lose out on that, BUT (being the eternal optimist that I am) I am hoping that everyone that is offered something will say YES.
RULES - There are only 2 rules in this game;
1) The question to the potential recipient is to be stated thusly: Will it make you smile if I (fill in the blank with what you're offering)? Please do NOT alter the question in anyway. For example "What can I do to make you smile?" is a definite NO NO NO! The reason is that as a giver I want YOU to decide what you feel comfortable giving. Some people have the idea that givers should give what the receiver asks for, but I do not agree with that. What if a person wants cigarettes, and your totally against smoking, should you give them that because that is what they asked for? How would it make you feel if you did that? Ok, so you see my point. Giving (to me), is about the giver, and it should make you feel good. If it doesn't then something is wrong, period (in my humble opinion). So for the purpose of this game, the question is and shall only be stated as: Will it make you smile if I...? Agreed? Good. Thank you. :)
2) PHOTOS - pictures are very important to the success of this game. Seeing the smiling faces of the recipient as they receive their offered item will really inspire others to get in on the fun. So I am asking that game entries submitted include a photo. I understand that there will be some exceptions to this, but whenever possible please be sure to take/send a photo of recipient receiving their item. Please send photo and the account of your experience to me at OprtnSmileyFace@aol with OSF Game Entry as the Subject. Oh and a note on picture size and quality. Ideally pics should be at least 600 pixels wide and the best quality possible. If photos are too blurry or too small I will not be able to use them.
Remember that the purpose of this game is simple - it is to HAVE FUN and to MAKE SOMEONE SMILE. So keep it simple but be creative, and have lots of fun with this. I look forward to reading your entries and seeing your photos. :)
