Things That Made Me Smile - Smile Honey

It's been awhile since I've posted and entry in this category, but I recently received something that I just had to share. It's this photo of a "smiling" jar of honey! I just love it. Thanks to my friend and "sister" Carla for this unexpected smile. Honey, you have brought me so many smiles since becoming my friend, and I appreciate them all. :)

PET Spells S-M-I-L-E-S!

I went in for another PET Scan today, and while I am not a fan of those coffin-esque type of machines, going their presented a great opportunity to spread smiles. Today was a very good day in this regard. There were 5 people working in the office and I was able to give Smiley to each one of them (they were all different)! It was so much fun. The best part, were the reactions. Wow, I don't think I've ever gotten responses quite like that before. It was amazing. I even got a couple of really big HUGS! OK maybe that was the best part. It really made my day to be able to touch those lovely people, whose job it is to help others get better, with a small gesture of kindness. To see them smile and react the way they did is some of the best "treatment" I could ever get. :)

New Blog Feature - The Smile Light

I love it when I hear about people/blogs etc. that are about making the world a better place. So I thought it would be nice to "shine a light" on these types of things. I am calling it - The Smile Light, and it will be a weekly feature on OSF.

This week I'm shining the Smile Light on a site called Sprout Launch. I became aware of it when the founder, Molly, began following OSF on Twitter. When I checked it out I smiled immediately and thought it was such a neat website. Sprout Launch is a site that encourages kindness. You can visit the site to get inspiration on kind acts you can perform as well as (and this is my favorite part) share your kind acts to inspire others. Additionally, when you post your "good deeds" you are entered for a chance to win weekly prizes - such as a gift card to Starbucks for example. I hope you will stop by for a visit and share your good deeds, or just check out what others are doing. Either way, I think you will leave the site with a smile on your face, and motivation to do more kind deeds!

Molly, great job on a wonderful site/blog. May you continue to inspire/encourage kindness in our world.

Smiles Sent to Fellow Bloggers

In addition to sending out Smileys to people that have requested them, I love to proactively seek out people to give them to. Recently I sent smiles to two fellow bloggers. The first went to Katie of the cheerful-spirit-lifting blog Color Me Katie. She is fun and creative as you can see from the photo she sent.
The next one went to Melissa, whom I think of as "The Princess of Nice". She is the creator of one of my favorite blogs - Operation Nice where she encourages people to be NICE. The photo below is a photo of Melissa (cute haircut and all) with her Smiley.
Thanks for the photos ladies, and for inspiring me in one way or another with your lovely blogs!
If you've received a Smiley from OSF and you'd like to share a photo with us please send me an email at OprtnSmileyFace@aol.com and I'll post here on the blog. :)

Revisiting My Smiley Button Goal for the Year

At the beginning of this year I got the bright idea to set a goal to have given away 2010 Smiley Pins by the end of 2010. Well after much consideration I've decided that that goal was a bit unrealistic and was putting too much pressure on me. This project is about giving and spreading smiles, it's not about "the numbers". So I have decided to remove the goal all together and just keep a record of how many pins are travelling out in the world. Making this change also frees me up for other OSF projects I'd like to do this year. :)

Two-In-One Awareness Smiley

If you look down the left side of this page you will see the Awareness Smiley. I originally designed it around Breast Cancer Awareness month last year, and it has been a very popular pin. Since that time I've also done it in other colors to represent other types of cancer (as well as other causes). For ex. I've done a few with orange thread for Leukemia. Well about a week ago I became aware of a dear lady that is currently battling two different cancers Breast Cancer AND Leukemia. To show my support for her and bring awareness to her condition I created a special smiley for her. It combines the pink for Breast Cancer and the orange for Leukemia.

I hope it puts a smile on her face. Oh by the way, there are two pins because I couldn't decide which I liked better, the white background or the yellow, so I did both. :)

March Magnets!

Wow this month really snuck up on me! I can't believe it's March already. Those couple of days that we "lose" in February really make a difference. Anywho, here we are in a new month, with more opportunities to spread more smiles!

Each month I try to come up with a new Smiley for the month, but this time it'll be something different. The theme for this month is March Magnets! (Don't ask how I come up with this stuff, it just comes to me LOL.) I created this magnet to remind those that see it to SMILE. My plan is to leave these on as many magnetic surfaces as I can throughout the month. My brain is reeling with all the possibilities; mailboxes, cars (it'll be in a little plastic baggie so it won't scratch the paint :) ), PO boxes (I live close to the Post Office), Soda Machines, Gumball Machines etc. etc. and I'm sure I'll come up with more as I go along.
If you have suggestions or where to place these please let me know. I'm all ears. :)
Would you like to get it on the fun of spreading these magnets around? If so, please send an email to OprtnSmileyFace@aol.com with your request. There's no charge for them, but if you'd like to make a donation to help cover the cost of making them you can. Just use the PayPal donate button on the left side of the screen. Snail mail donations are also welcome.
Thanks for being my partner in spreading smiles!
